Life Science Ambassador Programme

LifeSciences British Columbia and Medicon Valley Alliance have entered into a collaboration called The Life Science Ambassador Programme. This program involves the exchange of representatives (Ambassadors) between Medicon Valley Alliance and leading life science clusters around the world. British Columbia is one of twelve life science clusters chosen to participate in this program.

Medicon Valley Alliance (MVA) is a not-for-profit, member based organization, similar to to LifeSciences British Columbia.  Based in Copenhagen, Denmark and Lund Sweden, MVA represents all relevant university departments, healthcare organizations and most biotech and meditech related companies located in the Medicon Valley Region. This region includes the island of Zeeland in eastern Denmark and the Skåne region of southern Sweden. More than 300 life science companies are presently located in Medicon Valley.

The Life Science Ambassador Program is unique in that it provides opportunities to access information between the life science clusters more efficiently while creating international partners. This will be accomplished with a special exchange of life science repressentatives, formally called Medicon Valley Ambassadors.

LifeSciences British Columbia has recruited an Ambassador, Soren Harbel, who will live in the Medicon Valley for the next three years and work with MVA to develop new relations through researching science and business opportunities. Mr. Harbel will work to promote networking between participating clusters, making Medicon Valley a life science meeting place for the world.

In exchange, we are pleased to have our Ambassador from Medicon Valley, Mr. Morton Faester, who will play a complementary role to Mr. Harbel's.

Check this page regularly as we will be posting updates on what our Ambassadors have been doing in this unique globalisation initiative.

Concept & Goals:

  • Build a strategic network of contacts and active collaborations with 10 of the leading and emerging life science clusters in the world.
  • Representatives from the these leading and emerging regional clusters will call Medicon Valley "home" for a period of 2-3 years
  • Foreign Ambassadors will be embedded into day to day operations at Medicon Valley Alliance
  • Medicon Valley's representatives will be embedded into the host organizations abroad.
  • Creation of a global Life Sciences "Hub" in Medicon Valley where "The world meets for life science."
  • Increased business-to-business interactions
  • University/hospital collaborations with the purpose of defining and executing com-plementary research programs
  • Cross-sector initiatives combining the skills and com-petences of the private life science sector, the universities and healthcare sectors
  • Cross-exploitation of accumulated knowledge between the regional organisations of the bioclusters
  • Actively promote opportunities for private Venture Capital investments in either regions.
