BC Excels 2010/2011 Application

Eligibility criteria:

Must be a founding entrepreneur, CEO or similarly Senior Executive of a Life Science related Technology Company/Venture with:

  1. a life science related project/venture that is being taken towards commercialization or is already in active development.  This project/venture will be carried through the BC Excels program and serve as the basis to which the curriculum will be practically applied and implemented; and

  2. who is willing to openly describe and engage in discussion, with the assigned mentor, other BC Excels participants, program lecturers and other industry stakeholders, all but the most confidential information on the project and products in development.  A large part of the value of the BC Excels program comes from the ‘real world’ case experience of the participants.  This benefit relies upon the reasonable, candid disclosure of participants.  Wherever possible, reasonable accommodation for exceptionally sensitive information will be made so long as it does not significantly impede the benefit of the program for that or the other participants.  This determination is to be agreed upon between the respective participant and their corresponding mentor.

Program cost:

$2,500 for the first participant and $500 for any second executive from the same venture/company.

Facilities and meals will be provided, as appropriate.

Enrolment includes:

  • All six educational modules with expert speakers delivering content in an intimate format
  • All six corresponding Think Tanks with access to and interaction with the entire mentor group and other participants
  • Registration and attendance to the One Page Strategic Plan workshop hosted by AceTech in February
  • Notice of all relevant events taking place in the community other than those already complimentarily provided
  • Facilities and meals, as appropriate
  • Free attendance to the separate LifeSciences BC Annual BBQ and Awards Ceremonies

All sessions will take place at a central Vancouver location.  Some of the BC Excels lecture sessions may be opened up to the larger life science community, at a fee, in order to secure the best possible speaker and add to any work-shop type format.  In these cases, BC Excels participants will attend free of charge and will be given preferential consideration in all aspects of the session.

Please note that, while efforts will be made to accommodate individual availability, attendance at all BC Excels sessions, including lectures and Think Tanks, is mandatory save for exceptional circumstances.  One or more absence could jeopardize the participants graduation from the program.  Provided one or more absences, determination of completion of the program will be at the discretion of the participants corresponding mentor, in communication with the other mentors.  The program is scheduled to start on Tuesday October 26th and run every two weeks until the 24th of May and the graduation in early June.

If you are interested in applying for the program, please provide us with:

  • 1-2 page resume for the individual(s) that will participate in the program

  • Letter of interest (300-500 words) that provides the following information:

    • general description of your work and life experience leading up to now.  This should compliment, not repeat, details from your resume
    • general description of the project or venture you are currently developing/contemplating that will serve as the focal point around which the BC Excels program will be wrapped
    • what you hope to gain for your participation in the BC Excels program.

Application materials can be submitted online through our website using the following link: https://www.tfaforms.com/168862

The application deadline is September 30, 2010.

As the BC Excels curriculum is highly subsidized, LifeSciences British Columbia membership is a prerequisite to participation in the BC Excels program.  BC Excels participants will receive preferential consideration and discounted or complimentary access to LifeSciences BC and associated events for the full duration of the program.

We look forward to receiving your application, and an exceptionally rewarding BC Excels program in 2010/11!
