The Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) is Canada's newest hospital-affiliated Research Institute. Created in June 2003, it is a joint venture between the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health. With $71 million in research funding in 2002-2003, VCHRI is the fourth largest research institute in terms of support in Canada. Research activities at VCHRI fall into 5 thematic research programs: 1) Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation, 2) Immunity and Infection, 3) Neuroscience, 4) Prostate Cancer and 5) Respiratory and Critical Care. In addition to the thematic research programs, the institute has clinical research programs in Cardiovascular, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Reproductive Medicine.
