Response Biomedical is commercializing a new class of diagnostic with the world's only immunoassay platform that provides lab quality information in a matter of minutes, anywhere, every time. RAMP® tests are commercially available for three cardiac markers used in the early detection of heart attack, environmental detection of West Nile virus, and biodefense applications including the detection of anthrax, ricin, smallpox, and botulinum toxin.
Clinical Applications
For clinical applications, RAMP is to be used by healthcare professionals at the point-of-care, including physicians' offices, medical clinics, hospital emergency departments and laboratories worldwide. The Company has received regulatory clearance from Health Canada and the US Food and Drug Administration to market its RAMP Cardiac Marker Tests for detecting myoglobin, troponin I and CK-MB to assist in the rapid diagnosis of heart attack or acute myocardial infarction. Rapid diagnosis of heart attacks is critical to patient outcomes. Cardiac markers are proteins released in the blood following a heart attack. RAMP provides a quantitative result in approximately 15 minutes, compared to several hours turnaround time for traditional laboratory testing. The results from independent multi-center US clinical trials of RAMP tests for troponin I and CK-MB demonstrated improved performance over the current market leading quantitative point-of-care system.
The Company is expanding its international marketing and distribution network, as it pursues further clinical applications in stroke, oncology and infectious disease testing. The Company has achieved CE Mark and its Quality Management System is registered to ISO 9000: 2000 and ISO 13485:1996.
Biological Detection
In the biodefense arena, RAMP is the only independently validated rapid on-site detection system that enables first responders to quickly and confidently dismiss a hoax or positively identify a potentially infectious biological agent. Independently evaluated by the leading biological research facilities of the US Military and the Canadian Department of National Defense, RAMP Systems have been sold in Canada, the US, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates. Major US cities currently using RAMP Systems include Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, and Houston. Response Biomedical Corp. has formed an alliance with General Dynamics aimed at integrating the RAMP System into General Dynamics Canada's 4WARN System to meet the real-time biological agent surveillance needs of the military and homeland security agencies worldwide.
Infectious Diseases
Since there are no effective vaccines or treatments, there is an urgent public health need for rapid and reliable detection of West Nile virus to enable early identification and strategic intervention through chemical extermination of infected insects to prevent human transmission. According to recent evaluations performed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the RAMP West Nile Virus (WNV) Test is more than 100 times as sensitive as any other commercially available rapid environmental WNV test. The Company appointed ADAPCO, Inc., the largest distributor of mosquito control products and associated equipment in the United States, as the sole US distributor of the RAMP WNV Test.
