BC Biotech hosts an Informative Industry Roundtable
On March 23, 2006, BC Biotech hosted an Industry Roundtabtable with 40 participants, titled The New International Financial Centre Legislation re: Life Sciences Patents….What it Really Means for all BC Biotech Companies.
Effective January 1, 2006, important changes to the provincial International Financial Activity Act resulted in BC-based biotech companies that generate revenue from life-science related patents being eligible for a refund of up to 75% of their corporate income tax. This initiative is a huge step forward in growing British Columbia’s biotech industry, and this event help explained the details of the program, including how biotech companies that may not yet be generating revenue should prepare themselves to take advantage of this incentive.
BC Biotech would like to thank the following speakers for making presentations and for providing invaluable information about this recent legislation passed by the Government of British Columbia.
-Robert Fairweather, President, International Financial Centre -Don Furney, Managing Director, Tax Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers -Hector MacKay-Dunn, QC, Senior Partner, Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy, LLP

BC Biotech was very successful in introducing a new organizational sponsorship program last year, and would like to take this opportunity to invite you to be a part of it. We are pleased to announce that in the first six months of this new program, we had 21 sponsors confirmed. Without the support of our sponsors, we could not have undertaken all our new programs and initiatives in this past year, including the development of the BC Biotech position paper, facilitating linkages between pharma and our industry and developing a video promoting the benefits of investing in British Columbia.
The new sponsorship year runs from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007 and we are confirming our new sponsors now. Please view our 2006-2007 Sponsorship Program If you have any further questions about the program or would like more information, please contact Raman Bhullar at rbhullar@bcbiotech.ca or 604-602-5228.
