Key Insights on Reimbursement Provided in Recent Medical Device Seminar Series

LifeSciences BC was pleased to host a workshop on reimbursement featuring Jon Freudman, M.D., who provided an interactive session covering coding and payment methodologies, how to develop a reimbursement strategy, and how the payers approach the coverage of the new modalities.  Participants gained an appreciation of the key aspects of reimbursement and insight into planning how to avoid reimbursement pitfalls that can lead to costly delays.

Speaker Biography




Jonathan Freudman M.D. has over twenty five years of experience in healthcare encompassing a wide range of clinical, administrative and business challenges. He has been an independent consultant since 2002. His clients include venture capital, medical device and other biotechnology companies.  Core competencies include planning and implementation of effective reimbursement strategies. He is a frequent speaker at medical technology conferences and has been an expert panelist for the Institute for the Future.

Previously, Dr. Freudman managed Blue Shield of California’s Medical Policy Department.   His responsibilities included new technology assessment, medical policy, disease management programs and clinical guideline development.  He chaired the health plan’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and served on the national Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) Medical Policy Committee.

His career includes 16 years of the practice of general internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Rafael, California. Administrative duties at this facility included Department Chief of Internal Medicine as well as the Medical Center’s Chief of Quality. He served on the Board of Directors of the Marin County Medical Society.

Dr. Freudman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine with added qualification in Geriatrics. He is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine. He is a faculty member of University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and a volunteer at the San Rafael RotoCare free clinic for the indigent.
