You're invited to Competition Day for the sanofi-aventis BioTalent Challenge - April 6, 2009
Don't miss this opportunity to see first-hand what can be done in
biotechnology! High school students have been working all year on
their projects, and will be exhibiting and presenting on them for one
day only, on April 6, 2008. The day will feature exciting presentations
from local scientists and industry, and is a one-of-a-kind opportunity
to learn about biotechnology and how you can get more involved!
Science students and their teachers of all grades are invited to attend. Please contact Jennifer Siegfried if you plan to come at jsiegfried@lifesciencesbc.ca.

2008 competition judges observe student work
LifeSciences British Columbia is proud to be the lead organizer for the
sanofi-aventis BioTalent Challenge (SABC) in BC. The SABC encourages
young Canadians to pursue studies and careers in the exciting field of
biotechnology. SABC is a high-school competition held nationwide that
brings together creative and curious young people interested in solving
a problem using biotechnology.
The SABC competition requires students to submit research proposals of their own design for review by a panel of scientists. Once accepted, the students are matched with an appropriate mentor from the scientific community. The mentor program broadens a student’s classroom experience; giving competitors supervised access to research labs.
The competition offers a total of $10,000 shared between the winning students and their schools, and an all-expenses paid trip to Ottawa to compete in the National Competition for the winner.
The final competition for British Columbia students will be held on April 6, 2009 at BCIT's Burnaby Campus in Townsquare. Make sure you're in the know about the fascinating science of biotechnology. This year's event is not to be missed for curious students or people of any age.

Students present their project to judges
LifeSciences BC is always looking for mentors for this exciting competition.
The cornerstone of the sabc program is to provide students the
opportunity to work with scientist mentors in real labs on real
projects. To make this happen the program needs mentors to help the
high school student teams develop and execute their projects. Programs
such as sabc are really important tools for developing the next
generation of scientists and entrepreneurs. More information about the sabc mentor role can be found here.
If you are interested, please don’t hesitate to speak to Jennifer
Siegfried, Regional Coordinator for the program. Jennifer is available
