LifeSciences BC Keeps a Finger on Our Industry's Pulse with Recent Industry Leadership Summit
Many companies in Canada and BC have begun to feel the impact of the Canadian and global financial crisis. While government has a role to play in economic stimulation, there is
much that we can do proactively as a community to respond to the
situation. LifeSciences BC has been very proactive in addressing these coming challenges, and one action recently undertaken was the holding of an Industry Leadership Summit.
In recognition of the vulnerable position that many British Columbia companies find themselves in at this time, LifeSciences BC held an Industry Leadership Summit on January 20th, 2009 to discuss the most critical immediate and medium-term issues facing our life sciences industry. The session called on industry leaders to offer input on issues that they are currently facing and develop actions that Life Sciences BC, the community as a whole, and government, can undertake to mitigate the current crisis. In these difficult times, it is very important to find ways to pool resources and creatively identify opportunities for funding. If we pull together as a community, we can ensure that our industry remains a vibrant and viable engine for the economies of British Columbia and Canada for the long term.
The next steps for the above action items will be led by LifeSciences BC through further focused community engagement, but LifeSciences BC alone cannot make all of this happen. We will therefore work to bring all of the relevant organizations together, and will look to our community to work together to achieve our common goals.
