2008 competition judges observe student work
LifeSciences British Columbia is proud to be the lead organizer for the
sanofi-aventis BioTalent Challenge (SABC) in BC. The SABC encourages
young Canadians to pursue studies and careers in the exciting field of
biotechnology. SABC is a high-school competition held nationwide that
brings together creative and curious young people interested in solving
a problem using biotechnology.
Get your lab involved in the sanofi-aventis BioTalent Challenge!
LifeSciences BC is looking for mentors for this exciting competition.
The cornerstone of the sabc program is to provide students the
opportunity to work with scientist mentors in real labs on real
projects. To make this happen the program needs mentors to help the
high school student teams develop and execute their projects. Programs
such as sabc are really important tools for developing the next
generation of scientists and entrepreneurs.
Mentors can be anyone who has completed undergraduate studies and works in a lab.

Students present their project to judges
If you are interested, please don’t hesitate to speak to Jennifer
Siegfried, Regional Coordinator for the program. Jennifer is available

LifeSciences BC Engages Teen Scientists at sanofi-aventis BioTalent Challenge Pitch Day
The 2008/09 SABC program was launched on October 16, 2008! LifeSciences BC was pleased to be hosted by the BC Cancer Agency for this event. Attending students enjoyed presentations from industry and potential mentors, as well as learned about biotechnology and how they can contribute to scientific understanding.
Also at this launch event, BioteCANADA's Cate McCready was in attendance to present the 2008 Biogen IDEC Teaching Excellence Award. This year's recipient was Albert Chang of David Thompson Secondary. He is featured below with some of his students.
