Intellectual Property Expanded to Include Green-Related Patents
Effective March 1, 2008, the list of eligible life science related patents is expanded to include patents with World Patent Office classifications related to power generation using forces of nature such as wind, solar and tidal.
Part of the Climate Action Initiative in Balanced Budget 2008, this change is good news for life sciences in BC as it encourages activity in our sector and provides greater opportunity for bioproducts companies to leverage their IP.

PACIFIC COAST LEADERS BUILD REGIONAL COLLABORATION
JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING – A new Pacific Coast Collaborative
agreement between British Columbia, Washington, California, Oregon and
Alaska will forge a new partnership and a forum for leadership,
co-operative action, and a common voice on issues affecting the Pacific
coast region.
The agreement establishing the Pacific Coast Collaborative was
announced today by B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell, Washington Governor
Chris Gregoire, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Oregon
Governor Ted Kulongoski and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Read more
Premier Campbell Announces Cabinet Shuffle

Premier Campbell made an announcement regarding a recent Cabinet
shuffle. As a result, all technology-related matters have been moved
to the newly-named Ministry of Technology, Trade and Economic
Development which is the primary Ministry for the life sciences
sector. This Ministry is currently held by Minister Ida Chong.
VICTORIA – Premier Gordon Campbell realigned the provincial cabinet
today to provide more integrated services across government. The
changes include five new ministers and new portfolios for seven of the

Innovative Clean Energy (ICE) Fund Announcement
July 18, 2008
Minister of Technology, Trade and Economic Development, Ida Chong, and Minister of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources, Richard Neufeld announced funding of 15 projects on July 18, 2008. The ICE fund supports the BC Energy Plan and the government’s commitment to electricity self-sufficiency and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. “Clean Energy will play a key role in building a vibrant and prosperous green economy in British Columbia” said Minister Chong.
