India Comes Calling
In our efforts to continue to build relationships with emerging life sciences centres around the world, LifeSciences BC recently partnered with the Canada-India Business Council, the India Merchants’ Chamber and the BC Ministry of Technology, Trade and Economic Development to help welcome approximately 100 Indian government and business leaders to BC as part of the India Calling 2008 delegation June 18-19th.
Building on last year’s Premier’s Mission to India, the overall objectives of the initiatives was to promote and highlight the investment opportunities in India and British Columbia in life sciences, education, ICT and mining; to promote British Columbia as the destination of choice in Canada for investors, researchers, students and tourists; to raise awareness of the important cultural and social links between British Columbia and India, thanks to the large diaspora of Indo-Canadians in the province; and to communicate the importance of India in the present and future economic growth of British Columbia.
With these objectives in mind, Karimah Es Sabar, President of LifeSciences BC presented an overview of BC’s life sciences sector to delegates, highlighting our excellence in research and track record for successful commercialization of that research, identifying the various ways in which British Columbia and India may become important strategic partners in the further development of our respective industries.
