LifeSciences BC Members Hit Beijing for Pre-Olympic Business Development
LifeSciences BC was proud to have recently partnered with our Provincial Government and members of our academic research community through the University Presidents’ Council to lead a delegation to Beijing and Shanghai, China from May 23rd – 30th, 2008.
The Beijing portion of the program centered around Research and Innovation Week at BC-Canada House built near Tiananmen Square in conjunction with the 2008 & 2010 Olympic Games. This state-of-the-art facility is being made available to business delegations throughout the summer to showcase BC companies and research organizations. This was a unique opportunity to showcase the BC life sciences industry with the objective to strengthen and build on BC’s economic and commercial relationships as well as to raise BC’s profile internationally.

BC Delegation and Guests gather at BC-Canada Pavilion
LifeSciences BC’s events at the House were supplemented with site visits to leading research institutions in China such as the Beijing Genomics Institute, and also afforded BC delegates the opportunity to hold their own one-on-one corporate meetings with strategic Chinese partners; and the hosting of a special BC dinner at a local traditional Chinese restaurant, aimed at bringing together the participating members of the life sciences and advanced educations delegations and their Chinese partners.
Following the events in Beijing, we then traveled to Shanghai for the Biotech China and BioForum conference and tradeshow where BC organizations further explored opportunities in China, and undertook additional networking with potential partners, investors, clients, etc.
LifeSciences BC would like to sincerely thank the following member organizations whose participation made this venture such a great success:
• Genome British Columbia
• BC Cancer Agency
• Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia
• Stemcell Technologies
• NeuroKinetics Health Services
• Aurora Biomed
• Northern Lipids
