Simon Fraser University Welcomes Dr. Norbert H. Haunerland as Associate Vice-President, Research
Simon Fraser University's Vice-President, Research, Dr. B. Mario Pinto, is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Norbert H. Haunerland as Associate Vice-President, Research, effective September 1st, 2007.
Dr. Haunerland joined SFU in 1989 from the University of Arizona where he was an assistant research professor investigating various aspects of lipid metabolism. A long-time member of SFU's Senate, he chaired the Department of Biological Sciences and participated in SFU's strategic research-plan task force and the Senate Committee on University Priorities. He also helped to create the Institute for Health Research in Education and its subsequent implementation as the new Faculty of Health Sciences, where he has served as chair of the undergraduate studies committee and the tenure and promotion committee since 2005. He will be a strong advocate for research in areas that span the applied sciences, sciences, the social sciences and humanities.
Dr. Haunerland will share responsibility with Dr. Pinto for academic leadership in, and administration of, research and other scholarly activities by all personnel associated with the University.
