Age: 38 Profession: Vice-president, Vancouver Island Technology Park
Dale Gann is responsible for the full dayto-day operation of a 14-hectare site that is home to 23 companies employing a total of 1,300 people. It’s all in a day’s work.
“We provide a community environment where we help small technology spinoffs that come from either the university campus or the garage,” said Gann. “[The park is] a place to grow and become large multinational companies.”
In 2005, the Vancouver Island Technology Park contributed $280 million in revenue to the provincial economy. A planned expansion would add 235,000 square feet to accommodate growth within the park.
But it’s not all business. Gann helped organize the Canary Derby for the last two years. At this fundraiser for supporting the early detection of cancer, Tech Park companies compete through soapbox races.
Gann is heavily involved in the biotechnology industry and last year travelled to Singapore and Japan to promote Canadian biotechnology. He was named the B.C. Biotech volunteer of the year in 2006. |
