LifeSciences BC Recruits a Dedicated Medical Device Sector Specialist and Event Manager, Dr. Wei Liu

As you know, BC MedTech and BC Biotech have recently merged to become LifeSciences British Columbia – a partnership forged in order to create an even stronger collective industry voice, and to enhance the level of service and support provided to members of both organizations, and to ultimately ensure that all aspects of the bio-economy continue to grow in British Columbia and Canada. This change is reflective of a broader member association and an expanded life sciences industry view which recognizes the many commonalities between our various life sciences sectors.

This new joint organization will continue to undertake the activities and services traditionally offered by BC MedTech, such as the BC Excels Mentorship Program, and the many educational events regularly offered, and will in fact now be expanding upon them, and also incorporating the medical device sector into all ongoing BC Biotech activities and communications, including related advocacy and international marketing efforts, the BC Biotechnology Awards, Breakfast Speaking Series, website and newsletter.

In this light, we have created a governance and staffing structure for LifeSciences BC that will ensure that the medical device sector will be specifically represented within LifeSciences BC. This will be accomplished by having two seats on the Board of Directors reserved for representatives of the device sector -- which will initially be held by Mr. Barry Allen and Mr. Paul Geyer.

In addition, LifeSciences British Columbia recently recruited a dedicated Medical Device Sector Specialist and Event Manager, Dr. Wei Liu. 

Wei will act as the primary liaison for LifeSciences BC members and stakeholders from the medical device sector.  He will also manage the development and execution of all local LifeSciences BC events helping to provide mentoring, education, and networking opportunities for members.

After graduating with a M.D. degree from Beijing University of Chinese Traditional Medicines Wei practiced as an Orthopedic Surgeon in one of the most renowned hospitals in Beijing, China. He also holds a Master’s in Biochemistry from the University of Tsukuba in Japan, and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Houston in Texas. Wei is also fluent in Mandarin and Japanese languages.

Prior to coming on board, Wei worked for various medical device manufacturing and/or distributing companies in North America and Asia, specialized in market promotion and product development. More recently he worked for a Microsoft® Corporation vender in Vancouver, BC as Event Manager managing Microsoft® Partner training programs.
