GenoLogics Takes Home HR Excellence of the Year Award
Vancouver Island Technology Community Recognizes GenoLogics’ HR Team at VIATeC Technology Awards
Victoria, BC, Canada - May 28, 2007 - GenoLogics Life Sciences Software (GenoLogics) today announced the Company was recognized by the Vancouver Island Technology Community as an excellent place to work with an outstanding HR team. Last week, GenoLogics was the proud recipient of the Human Resources Excellence Award, at the VIATeC 2007 Technology Awards Dinner. In the current competitive hiring environment, a company’s culture and HR philosophy are crucial to attracting and retaining talented people. GenoLogics has developed a unique HR strategy with the goal of being recognized as one the best places to work in Canada.
Tyler Black, a software developer at GenoLogics and new addition to the team, commented, “Having spent the last three months as a new employee at GenoLogics, I can personally attest that our HR team completely deserves this award. They have worked very hard to help us get dialed-in and productive as quickly as possible. The sense of value and care that this company has for the team is evident, thanks to the quality of work by HR and the importance that they place on creating a great team.”
“Throughout my career I have primarily been a remote employee and have become accustomed to feeling detached from the head office. GenoLogics has spoiled me. The HR staff is proactive and diligent in including me in what is going on within the company, I really feel like I am part of a team and not alone several time zones away,” added Jason Attanucci, Technical Sales Executive at GenoLogics.
Hayley Fong, who joined the HR team a year ago, explained, “GenoLogics has provided me with a fantastic opportunity to work on countless innovative and creative HR initiatives. We’re dedicated to attracting, engaging, retaining and developing our talent in fun, unique ways. The HR profession is evolving and GenoLogics is leading the way. HR is about nailing the right people strategy for your organization and one size does not fit all. The profession is no longer just about payroll and benefits. Companies are now realizing great synergies as a result of aligning their business and people strategies. This is an exciting time to be in the field of HR and I feel fortunate to work for an organization that is committed to being a top employer.”
“I think this award validates something we all know, we have the best HR team in town. Their hard work and dedication has been instrumental in forming this team and the culture that gets us out of bed every morning,” added Michael Artemiw, a project manager at GenoLogics.
GenoLogics made human resources a top priority within the organization early on and it shows. GenoLogics is a small, young company with an employee offering reflective of what one might expect to find in a larger, more mature organization. Employees enjoy a rich training and development program on a variety of topics – everything from Oracle to personality types; quarterly ‘Hack Day’ (a free day each quarter to innovate in their role); a book club; numerous social events (including skiing, cooking, curling and more); Friday “Lunch & Laughs”, and the big event of the year, GenoPalooza, a one-day professional development conference for all employees featuring high profile guest speakers and training sessions, and a swag bag for all!
The CEO, Michael Ball and the Director of Human Resources, Brandie Yarish, recently spoke at the BCHRMA conference, where they showcased the work GenoLogics undertook in developing its unique corporate culture. All GenoLogics employees participated in a series of collaborative workshops leading to the development of the organization’s core values, vision, and culture. This project built incredible momentum within the organization and continues to provide guidance to GenoLogics in its HR service delivery. One of GenoLogics’ core values, open communication, means that employee feedback flows throughout the company on a regular basis, not just during employee survey time. It is recognized that everyone contributes to making the organization a great place to work as members of the GenoLogics team.
The recent announcement that the technology industry has overtaken tourism as Victoria’s number one industry, accounting for $1.67 billion in revenue last year, has solidified Victoria’s position as one of the best places in Canada to live and work. In addition to HR excellence, GenoLogics stands out within the Victoria tech community for its community involvement, such as the VIATeC Food Bank Challenge, the Canadian Blood Services Partners for Life program, and the Canary Derby fundraiser for cancer research. GenoLogics is actively recruiting to fill a number of open positions in the USA and Canada.
