Angiotech Pharma wins patent case in Dutch court

VANCOUVER — Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Wednesday it has won a “significant victory in a key area of our intellectual property” by prevailing in a Dutch patent infringement case against California-based Conor Medsystems Inc.
Angiotech said the District Court in The Hague found that Conor's CoStar paclitaxel stent infringes an Angiotech European patent, and Conor was ordered to stop selling its drug-coated artery-supporting product in the Netherlands.
“Conor's attempt to design around our patented technology has failed,” declared Angiotech president and CEO William Hunter.
“Not only did the court uphold Angiotech's patent rights in the Netherlands, it also ruled that Conor's stent infringes upon that intellectual property.”
However, Vancouver-based Angiotech “anticipates that there will continue to be additional review and further hearings of the various patent claims in this case, and that there are likely to be appeals.” |
