CDRD granted $8 million
In recent months there have been various ongoing initatives underway for the Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) that BC Biotech has been involved in. These initiatives have focused on raising the awareness of the Centre and building financial support. BC Biotech is very pleased that the Centre has been granted $8 million from the federal Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help commercialize research, by maturing academic discoveries into high-value candidate drugs that will attract investors.
By developing, formulating and testing therapeutics and diagnostics, the Centre, will serve all B.C. research universities and associated institutions and will bridge the "commercialization gap" or lag between identifying new therapeutics and getting them to market.
The Centre was one of the six projects funded from CFI. Researchers at the University of British Columbia and its clinical academic campuses have earned more than $26.5 million to fund facilities and equipment, from the federal Canada Foundation for Innovation .
