UBC professor named Canada's Health Researcher of the Year

Among Canada's top health researchers recognized at the fifth annual Canadian Health Research Awards, UBC’s Robert Hancock was awarded the CIHR Michael Smith Prize in Health Research - Canada's Health Researcher of the Year.

Hancock is an undisputed leader in microbiology and his research is having a tremendous impact on health. Throughout his career he has focused on addressing infectious diseases, which are responsible for a third of all deaths worldwide.

The CIHR Michael Smith Prize in Health Research: Canada's Health Researcher of the Year honours the memory of the late Dr. Michael Smith who shared the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1993. This award recognizes innovation, creativity, leadership and dedication to health research, providing world-class researchers with funding to pursue critical research and to support and mentor trainees.
