September 21st to 29th, 2006

National Biotech Week is a celebration of the imagination and innovation of Canadian scientists from Victoria to St. John's, and is designed to stimulate discussion about the importance of biotechnology to the lives of all Canadians. It is also an opportunity to expand that discussion beyond Canada's borders. National Launch Event: "One World - Being a Player in Biotechnology's Global Convergence"

Pfizer Partnering Symposium

BC Biotech Leads Mission to Singapore and Japan

From September 5th to 15th, BC Biotech and five delegates from industry, research, academia and government will be travelling to Singapore and Japan to meet with representatives from the biotech industries of both countries.  The objectives of this mission are to execute research collaborations with British Columbia’s academic, not-for-profit and commercialization centres of innovation in the field of biotechnology, explore licensing opportunities for biotechnology companies from BC with Asian corporate pharmaceutical companies, and source out procuring early stage and expansion private capital opportunities. 
 
While in Singapore, the BC delegates will be involved in a BC Biotechnology Partnering Seminar and will have the opportunity to meet representatives and listen to presentations from BioSingapore, Singpore's Economic Development Board, A*Star (Agency for Science,Technology and Research) and the Biomedical Research Council.  For a profile on Singapore's Booming Biosciences Industry, please click here.

The delegates will then travel to Tokyo, Japan where they will be involved in a range of meetings, presentations and activities.  During their stay in Japan, the delegation will be representing British Columbia at the Biotech-Japan Seminar in Tokyo, having a BC Biotech booth showcasing British Columbia's Biotech cluster at BioJapan, and having a BC Biotech exhibit at JETRO BioLink Forum in Osaka.  Stay tuned for a full profile on Japan's biotech industry in the next issue of biolinks.

The next offering of Biotech 101 will be October 19-20, 2006 in Building SE42, Room 200 at the BCIT Burnaby Campus.

Offered in partnership by BC Biotech and BCIT, and taught by Dr. Paul Barran, Biotech 101 is a popular two-day course that provides a comprehensive overview of the basic principles, technologies, and applications of biotechnology.

The cost of Biotech 101 is $695 + GST for BC Biotech Members and $925 + GST for Non-members (the fee includes the cost of all course materials as well as lunch and snacks).
