Dorsey & Whitney Educate Members on US Patent Changes

On June 27th, two seminars were presented at UBC and BC Biotech, where Biotech patent lawyers from San Francisco discussed the changes to US patents, what they mean for your patent portfolio, and what you can do now to adjust your strategy and protect your IP assets.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has proposed two sets of rule changes that could, if enacted (which appears likely), dramatically impact patent strategy from the initial drafting stage through all phases of U.S. patent prosecution and maintenance. The first proposal presents major changes to continuation and continued examination practice in the U.S., while the second proposal is directed to the selection and designation of a "representative" claim set.  These issues are highly relevant to B.C. biotech companies.

An update on the rule changes will be provided in the next issue of biolinks.
