Dr. Warren Nagata, Ex-officio

Warren Nagata was born in Calgary, Alberta and received a BSc in Zoology, from the University of Calgary in 1978, MSc from the Laboratory of Aquaculture Physiology, Kagoshima University (Japan) in 1982 and a Doctorate degree from the Laboratory of Planktology, Hokkaido University (Japan) in 1985, where he researched the cultivation physiology of live feed organisms used in marine larval finfish aquaculture.  He returned to Canada in 1986 to carry out post-doctoral research on the larval rearing of sablefish and halibut at the DFO Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo, BC.   In 1988 Warren became an industrial technology advisor for the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), based out of Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo.  Since then he has developed and managed over 500 industrial research and development projects, and continues as a fisheries, aquaculture and marine bioproducts sector specialist for the national IRAP Network.  Warren is also a founding and serving director for the Mid-Island Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC).
